The former president of LUKOIL received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, I degree, for his great contribution to the fuel and energy complex of Russia

PresidentVladimir Putin awarded the former President of LUKOIL Vagit Alekperov with the Order “For Services to the Fatherland” I degree. The decree is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

“For services to the state, a great contribution to the development of the fuel and energy complex and many years of conscientious work, award the Order of Merit for the Fatherland” I degree Alekperov Vagit Yusufovich»,— the text of the document says.

Alekperov has been president of LUKOIL since 1993. On April 21, he announced his early resignation: Alekperov left the board of directors of LUKOIL and the post of head of the company.

He explained that he left the company due to personal sanctions from Great Britain and Australia, which could hinder the development of LUKOIL. According to him, the company is no longer associated with him “in no way”.

Earlier, London and Canberra banned Alekperov from entering their territory and blocked all assets.


The ex-president of LUKOIL said that after leaving office he would remain in Russia and continue to do charity work. “I am a Russian, I am a patriot of my country, I am not going to leave the country. I have many plans for the development of social projects, I love and will continue to develop the city of Kogalym and other northern cities,— said Alekperov.

Forbes magazine estimates Alekperov's fortune at $10.5 billion. He ranks tenth among the richest Russians.

The Board of Directors appointed acting LUKOIL President Vadim Vorobyov. Prior to that, he served as the first executive president and was a member of the board of the company.
