Psychologists of Moscow State University have identified the main factors of educational motivation of the child

Moscow State University psychologists have found that self-regulation and working memory have a strong influence on the level of learning motivation in children. The results of the study are presented in the journal Acta Psychologica.

The material says that children show individual differences in learning motivation even before they go to school. The experts noted that this suggests that the individual characteristics of the child and the home environment also affect motivation.

Psychologists have noted that from the age of three, children experience success more vividly than younger children .

Head of the Department of Psychology of Education and Pedagogy of the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University Alexander Veraksa noted that very little is known about the work of motivation and self-regulation in childhood. According to him, this is due to difficulties in distinguishing between them.

“For example, a child's persistence in completing a task can be considered both as an indicator of motivation and as a behavioral manifestation of self-regulation. It is here that the pedagogical dilemma is born about how to help a child who quits halfway through: to train self-regulation skills or to keep his interest in any way? – Veraksa added.

The materials also say that interest and pleasure in participating in activities increases with the amount of visual and verbal information that a child is able to retain in working memory. The ability to restrain impulsive reactions is related to how passionate children are about the educational process.

Earlier, educational psychologist Evgenia Pyatashova gave several recommendations to parents on preparing children for kindergarten. Read more in the material.
