Columnist Matthew Karnichnig in Politico magazine reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was embarrassed by sending 50 soldiers to Lithuania, instead of the promised several thousand troops.
He clarified that Scholz's decision caused great bewilderment in Vilnius.
Earlier, Scholz told reporters that the German government would deploy a “reliable combat brigade” to Lithuania. According to preliminary data, its number was supposed to be several thousand military personnel.
Soon, this statement of Scholz was refuted by his assistants. According to them, the FRG plans to send about 50 soldiers to Lithuania.
“In turn, the assistants gave completely different comments. According to them, Germany will transfer to Lithuania only the headquarters of the unit, that is, about 50 people. At the same time, most of the troops will remain on the territory of Germany, ”the newspaper writes.
