Moscow does not harbor aggressive plans towards Kiev, said the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Russia Sergei Naryshkin on the TV channel “Russia 24”.
“Russia did not have and does not have any aggressive plans against Ukraine. We have seen, we know how this blatant lie [that Russia is allegedly planning an invasion of Ukraine], and a very dangerous lie, began to spread from the other side of the Atlantic, and this lie was picked up in a number of Western capitals, — he said.
At the same time, the main threat to Ukraine— this is an internal armed conflict between the “Kiev regime” and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk republics (DNR and LNR), Naryshkin continued. And this conflict can only be resolved through diplomacy, namely— through the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service noted.
Since last autumn, Western politicians and the media have been reporting that Russia is preparing an invasion of Ukraine. Moscow denies these accusations. The Russian Foreign Ministry declared the unacceptability of “even the thought” about the war between Moscow and Kiev.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also considers an unlikely threat of invasion, sources told The Wall Street Journal. As noted in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in order to carry out an invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops had to form strike groups on the border. However, this has not yet happened in any of the places, said the head of the department, Alexei Reznikov.
