Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan: we should not shift the problem of signing a peace treaty onto the shoulders of future generations

New Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said that Tokyo will continue negotiations with the Russian side to conclude a peace treaty after the territorial issue is resolved. According to him, the new government intends to strengthen mutually beneficial relations with Moscow. Yoshimasa Hayashi pointed out that we are talking about various spheres, including political, economic and cultural.

“As for the problem of signing a peace treaty, we should not shift this task onto the shoulders of future generations,” the head Foreign Ministry.

The head of the department said that Japan will continue to conduct a dialogue in this direction.

Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko previously stated that Russia will never give up the South Kuriles.

The peace treaty following the Second World War between Russia and Japan has not been concluded. Mainly due to the problem of belonging to the Kuril Islands.
